How’s Your Brushing? Dental Health in Grapevine

Grapevine tooth brushing tips

You’ve been doing it since you were little. You switch to auto pilot morning and night and brush for dental health. At Mason Dental in Grapevine, we want to be sure you’re doing it right.

Actually, a lot of people tooth brushing mistakes. You may need to tweak your routine to better sustain your dental health and safeguard your smile.

1. Take your time.
It’s understandable. You want to get it over with and go to bed. Proper teeth cleaning takes time and careful attention. Time yourself when you brush—you might be surprised at how promptly you finish. The process should take two to three minutes. It can also be helpful to take a different route around your mouth every few days. By altering your routine, you approach areas from a different, and possibly, better angle.

2. Don’t forget to floss.
No matter how agile you are with a brush, there are places between your teeth you can’t reach. That is where bacteria can easily increase and start the decay process. Clean those places by flossing.

3. Use the right toothbrush.
It is ironic that some people damage their enamel or gums because they brush too vigorously with a stiff brush. We recommend a soft bristle brush, and one with a small head.

4. Use fluoride toothpaste.
Not all toothpastes are created equal! Read the label and choose one with fluoride. That goes for adults as well as kids. Your enamel is continuously under assault from acidic foods and drinks and fluoride helps it re-mineralize.

At Mason Dental in Grapevine, your dental health is important to us. In addition to regular flossing and brushing, be sure to see us every six months for a checkup and cleaning. We treat gum disease and also provide general and cosmetic dentistry.
